We headed up near Mt. Hood to Mirror Lake. It is a 1.4 mile hike to the lake and the campgrounds and then another 2.5 to the top of the ridge. Kevin carried the pack with all the food and essentials. I carried Kaleb with a sleeping bag or two. The packs were heavy but doable. The trail was nice and shaded but was mostly uphill. We took several stops along the way but made it without a hitch.
Fist thing was to find a site and set up camp. There were cleared areas with rock fire pits. After setting up camp the babies were ready for a nap. At fist Kaleb thought it was a game to be in the tent and just wanted to run around. But he soon got tired and calmed down. He took a great nap and gave us some time to rest as well. Of course Kevin and Lee headed to the lake to do some fishing.
We had great tin foil dinners and even some marshmallows. We walked around the lake and the guys caught crawdads with a raw hot dog. Then it was time for the babies to go to bed. Kaleb again thought it was a game. But this time it took me 1.5 hours to get him to bed. That alone wore me out! That night we slept some, it was of course not as comfortable as our bed and having Kaleb smother me didn't help much!
Once were ate and were ready we headed out for our hike. We went to the top of Tom, Dick and Harry (these are the names of the peaks). It was again an up hill climb but boy was the view worth it! We could see 5 amazing mountain in Washington and Oregon. It was a perfect clear day!

Looks like you guys had fun! I love love LOVE that picture of you and Kaleb, that is such a cute one of you both!
I think maybe Kevin got the lighter load ;).
Great pictures - what a view you had up there. Camping sounds fun, we really need to give it a try with our kids.
Fun...Great job. Looks like Kaleb had a blast. I guess it wouldn't be feasible to bring a play pin on a backpack trip, but I always use that on camping trips helps tons with bed time, they can't run a round. Of cours Ry can get out of them now.
Sounds fun! I'll have to tell David. He's been wanting to take the boys somewhere to backpack. Although I think I may have to pass on that trip and just send the boys:)
Sure looks like fun. It's great to be young and have all that energy. Enjoy the beauty around you, thanks for sharing.
Wow, I am mega impressed!!
